DRAWING THE LINE - PART 1

The studio has authorized a first time look at the scripting style being used for the series, by releasing the script being prepare for later in one production.

The script is a collaborative effort of three writers and will be set for production next winter. This is believed to be first ever script to production release ever presented to fans or blog follwers/subscribers, by any star trek fan-film production before production has ever started.

Remember that this is a work in progress and that this is not the final script approved for production.

Enjoy the script...the fun is only beginning!

The Minotaur stabilizes upon entry and, as always, arrives on the outer boundary of the Van Allen belts, just outside of Earth's orbit.

The bridge crew stands firm at their stations as the Time Vortex closes behind them. Commander Kajol is the first to leave her station and steps down to the Conn.

KAJOL
"Transition to Time Index 4-1 complete, Captain."

LCDR RIGGS
[Looking at his terminal]
"
Chronometric Matrix is contained and shut down."

CAPTAIN
"Very well. Computer..."
[Computer tone sounds off]
"...estimate current progression of technologies on the planets surface."

SHIP'S COMPUTER
[Voice only]
"Working..."
[Computer mechanisms instantly sounds off]
"...due to the industrial signatures on the planets surface, there is a 98.3 chance that planetary evolution has followed standard course of known history.

CAPTAIN
"Very well...
[Turns to ENS Quest's station]
...Ensign, ensure we are masked from the technologies of the time."

ENS QUEST
"Aye, Captain"
[She begins tapping on her terminal]

CAPTAIN
"ETA for the Borg's arrival to this Time Index?

ENS QUEST
[Taps on her terminal]

"Four hours, fifty minutes."

CAPTAIN
(Looks at Kajol and grins)
"...Prepare the away teams."

THE CAPTAIN'S ORDER IS CUT SHORT BY LT BA'HOUK, WHO IS STANDING AT HIS TACTICAL STATION.

LT BA'HOUK
"Captain..."
[Knows he has the Captain's attention]
"...Passive scans have detected no planets on the outer ring of the system."

CAPTAIN
[A little shocked]
"What?"

The Commander steps back up to her Science Terminal and immediately begins tapping on her console. She then activates the terminals scope and looks in.

CDR KAJOL
"Ba'Houk is correct, Captain...there are no planets registering from the outer marker. Everything past
Neptune...is gone."

THERE'S A DRAMATIC PAUSE BY THE CAPTAIN.

SCENE FADES TO BLACK.

-CUT TO-
THE BRIDGE IS SILENT AS THE CAPTAIN STEPS OVER TO THE SCIENCE STATION, WHERE CDR KAJOL IS LOOKING OVER HER READINGS AGAIN.

Captains Log: 68773.3
The ship has completed transition to Time Index 4.7 and have arrived at our target area of Sector 001, present Stardate: 99002.3. We have entered the darker regions of the Quantum string which have yielded alternate realities and scenarios contrary to logical history. Commander Kajol believes that this "mirror universe" of negativity could be due to the flow of anti-time particles detected during our entry into the Time Vortex.

CAPTAIN
[Steps up to Kajol's station]
Could it just be an anomaly for this reality.

CDR KAJOL
"Negative, Captain. Sensors have also detected a massive debris field...and a third ring of heavy meteorites in the outer barrier which suggests the outer planets were recently pulverized."

CAPTAIN
Pulverized?

LT BA'HOUK
[Looking up from his terminal]
"Captain, I've detected a ship circumnavigating the outer area of the system...but sensors are being affected by subspace interference...I can't get a better look at the ship."

The Captain turns to Commander Kajol's station.

CDR KAJOL
"Yes, Captain...I see it. It's a large vessel."

CAPTAIN
"Is it Borg?"

CDR KAJOL
[Taps on her terminal]
...Interesting. There is a distortion field, creating a barrier of subspace interference within the area of ship. Detailed scans of the outer planets is useless and any scans we conduct will be difficult..."
[Looks at the Captain]
"...However, the interference seems to increase the further I scan into the outer areas of the system."

CAPTAIN
"Is that ship causing the interference?"

CDR KAJOL
"There's a good probability. But no Borg vessel has ever used an energy modulation which could jam sensors at the sub-space level...and if the Ship's Computer stated that this earth has a standard industry, I doubt it was them who sent the vessel to the outer area of the system."

CAPTAIN
[Turns to the helm]
"Lay in a course for the outer marker, Lieutenant. Three quarters impulse."

HELM OFFICER
"Aye, Captain."

CDR KAJOL LEANS TOWARDS THE CAPTAIN.

CDR KAJOL
"Is that wise, Captain."

CAPTAIN
[Nods]
"I'd like to see what's out there, Commander."

ENS QUEST
[At her terminal]
"Captain, the subspace interference is affecting all of the system's on board the ship."

LCDR RIGGS
"I concur, Captain. There is a small, but noticeable drop in energy readings within the ships core."

The Captain turns and faces the Science Station, where CDR Kajol is working on her terminal.

CDR KAJOL
[Looks up at the Captain]
"The closer we approach to the vessel, the greater the power drain. The sub space jamming is on a carrier wave which seems to distort energy patterns at will."

CAPTAIN
[Steps towards the Tactical Station]
"A defensive measure, I'm sure. Is the vessel aware of our approach?"

LT B'HOUK
[Looks at his terminal]
"Negative. She's on a course for the gas giant, Neptune."

The Captain turns to the Science Station.

CAPTAIN
"Can we get a look at her?"

CDR KAJOL
"Captain, we're only using passive sensors...if we go active, we might get a detailed scan and a better look at the vessel."

CAPTAN
"Very well. Go active an all sensors."

A soft, but noticeable ping leaves the ship and heads outward from the hull. The crew stands firm at their station waiting for some sort of return; it never comes.

Then...

LT BA'HOUK
[From his terminal]
"Captain...the vessel has changed course and is veering in our direction at sub-light speed."

LCDR RIGGS
[from his station] (A Little worred)
"Energy drain is increasing substantially."

CAPTAIN
(Firm)
"Helm, hard about!"

HELM OFFICER
"Aye, Captain...coming about."

FROM OUTSIDE, THE MINOTAUR MAKES A SHARP TURN TO THE PORT AND BEGINS TO DRIVE AWAY FROM THE OUTER AREAS OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM.

LCDR RIGGS
"Power systems back to normal, Captain."

CAPTAIN
"Very well...Helm keep us at this distance."

HELM OFFICER
Aye, Captain.

CAPTAIN
The vessels dampening field has a range limit.

CDR KAJOL
[Looking up from her terminal]
"We have a visual of the vessel, Captain."

The Captain steps towards the forward monitor.

CAPTAIN
"Project it on screen, Commander."

An instant later, a huge cone-like vessel approaches the Minotaur. The front of the vessel has large mouth [or maul] which is open to space, and glowing with a fluorescent mechanical induced fire from within. The large vessel seems to gain speed, but tends not to be able to keep up with the Minotaur.

The crew are in awe of the massive vessel. The Captain slowly steps backwards towards the Science Station.

CDR KAJOL
"We're keeping good distance, Captain. If we had gotten closer, I doubt we would have been able to escape the vessels subspace interference."

CAPTAIN
"Anything from sensors?"

CDR KAJOL
"...She seems to have a total conversion drive..."
[Taps on her terminal]
"...The outer hull is solid neutronium, I doubt our weapons would scratch the surface...by what our sensors were able to see within it, it looks like a large robot."

CAPTAIN
"Any record of such a craft in our historical data banks?"

CDR KAJOL
[Taps on her terminal]
"Searching..."

LT BA'HOUK
[Looking up from his terminal]
"Captain, she's turning...headed back on her initial course towards the planet
Neptune."

CAPTAIN
"Very well, Lieutenant...Helm, change course. Set a parallel course and keep our distance from the sub-space interference."

HELM OFFICER
"Aye, Captain...changing course to 122 mark 7, three quarters impulse."

CDR KAJOL
"Captain..."

The Captain steps back to the Science Station.

CDR KAJOL
"...ship's historical files record an encounter with a planet killer, dubbed a 'Doomsday Machine' by the Captain of the USS ENTERPRISE, which wreaked havoc on Stardate:4214.2, destroyed several planets in Sector L374, and set a path to the most heavily populated areas of the Federation."

CAPTAIN
"L374, that's light years from here. How did they stop it?"

CDR KAJOL
"A derelict ship, the USS CONSTELLATION, was detonated inside the planet killer. It was theorized by Captain James T. Kirk that an anti-matter explosion could destroy the inner mechanisms of the vessel."

CAPTAIN
"A theory which worked of course?"

CDR KAJOL
(Raises an eyebrow)
"Of course."

Suddenly, something stops the Captain. She looks about the compartment.

CAPTAIN
[To CDR Kajol]
"Do you hear that?"

CDR KAJOL
[Listens]
"I hear nothing."

The camera zooms in on the Captain's antlers; the Andorian side of her reacts.

CAPTAIN
[Trying to make it clear]
"There's a hum...deafening...in the upper frequency of harmonics."

LT BA'HOUK
"Captain...you need to see this!"

The Captain and CDR Kajol look at the main monitor.

FROM SPACE, THE DOOMSDAY MACHINE IS SUCKING IN THE OUTER ATMOSPHERE OF NEPTUNE AND USING A FORCE BEAM TO CUT SECTIONS OF THE PLANET THAT ARE ROCK AND METAL BASED.

ENS QUEST
(Shocked)
Good Lord!

WITHIN MOMENTS, SEVERAL LARGE FRAGMENTS OF NEPTUNE FALL SLOWLY INTO SPACE. THE LARGE VESSEL BEGINS TO SLICE THE FRAGMENTS IN SMALLER CHUNKS AND BEGINS TO CONSUME THEM.

CDR KAJOL
"Captain, the historical files also identified an entry by the Enterprise's Science officer, a Mr. Spock, who speculated that the planet killer consumed planet debris to recharge it's inner systems to annihilate planets which fell within it's course."

CAPTAIN
"A robot weapon that purposely destroys planets...uses the rubble to regenerate its power use, then destroys other planets...A never ending cycle."

ENS QUEST
[Stepping out from her station]
"...Is this why the Borg selected this segment of the Quantum String, Captain? To capture the technology from this planet killer?"

CDR KAJOL
"The Ensign has a point, Captain...the earth planet in this time era has no technological value."

CAPTAIN
[Steps towards the main monitor]
"Unless they need to replenish the numbers in their crew..."
[Looks at the Helm]
"...Helm, change course towards earth. Standard orbit upon arrival."

HELM OFFICER
"Aye, Captain."

CDR Kajol steps down from her station and stands next to the Captain.

CDR KAJOL
"Captain, I had a good read on the force beam used by the planet killer...it read a 'pure anti-proton' confinement beam."

The Captain looks dramatically at CDR Kajol.

CAPTAIN
"Anti-Proton?...our ships weapons are based on that energy idiom."

CDR KAJOL
"Yes, Captain. Apparently, some of the scientists who developed the weapons systems for this ship were aware of the original confrontation with the planet killer in our past history, and mocked the vessels force beam technology."

CAPTAIN
[Downplaying it]
"I doubt it's a conspiracy, Kajol."

CDR KAJOL
"I concur...but it does give us a glimpse of the defensive capabilities of this ship...a testing phase which was ignored before we started our mission."

CAPTAIN
"Well, we can't cry over spilled milk..."

The Captain steps away TOWARDS the Tactical Station.

CDR KAJOL
[Loudly to herself]
"Spilled milk?..."

THE CAPTAIN ACTIVATES THE SHIP'S COMPUTER.

CAPTAIN
"Computer, scan the planets surface for any sign of spore technology."

COMPUTER
[Voice only]
"Scanning..."
[Computer mechanisms instantly sounds off]
"...Ship's sensors detect no signs of Spore Technology on the planetary surface. No Spore Technology exists in Sector 001."

CAPTAIN
"Very well..."

WALKING TO THE TACTICAL STATION, THE CAPTAIN LOOKS OVER AT LCDR RIGGS [AT THE ENGINEERING STATION], WHO LEAVES HIS STATION AND STEPS UP TO THE CAPTAIN AND LT BA'HOUK.

CAPTAIN
"Go down to the planet and search for any contact concerning this deep space event."

BOTH THE OFFICERS NOD.

CAPTAIN
"We're limited on time, but I am quite sure the inhabitants of this time line ARE aware of the planet killer destroying the planets along the outer rings...be careful."

THE CAPTAIN LOOKS AT ENS QUEST, WHO IS SO EXCITED SHE IS WAITING FOR A CHANCE TO LEAVE HER SEAT.

CAPTAIN
[To Quest]
"Go with them."

LCDR RIGGS, LT BA'HOUK and an excited ENS Quest leave the bridge.
CDR KAJOL STEPS UP TO THE CAPTAIN.

KAJOL
"No Spore Technology on the planet and our sensors being of little help for the Away Team, are you sure this is a good step in our mission, Captain?"

CAPTAIN
"You think it's best we just leave to the next dimension and forget what happens here?"

KAJOL
"Of course no. I am curious to learn why the Borg have selected this destination, as much as you are. But I suggest we do not put any lives in danger to complete this mission."

CAPTAIN
[Grins]
"No one dies today, Kajol."

THE CAPTAIN STEPS AWAY.

-CUT TO THE PLANETS SURFACE-

AS ALWAYS, THE AWAY TEAM ARRIVES IN A SMALL TOWN, IN THE BOUNDARY OF AN OLD WAR MEMORIAL. IMMEDIATELY, ENS QUEST  BEGINS TO SCAN THE AREA AS LCDR RIGGS AND LT BA'BOUK TAKE A QUICK LOOK ABOUT THE IMMEDIATE AREA.

LT BA'HOUK SNEAKS ABOUT AND LOOKS OVER A CORNER OF AN OLD BUILDING.

LT BA'HOUK
"I will never get over the fact that every one of the planets we've visited in each dimension have the same war memorial erected in it."

STEPPING UP BEHIND HIM, NOT SNEAKING ABOUT AS MUCH.

LCDR RIGGS
"But each planet we've visited is not the same."

LT BA'HOUK
"You think this one will be completely different as the ones before?"

LCDR RIGGS STEPS OUT INTO THE STREET.

LCDR RIGGS
"I'm pretty sure...this time there's no one here."

LT BA'HOUK STEPS OUT INTO THE STREET AND LOOKS ABOUT.

ENS QUEST JOINS THEM WITH HER HAND-SCANNER FULLY ACTIVATED.

ENS QUEST
"I'm not detecting any life forms...no humans, no animals, nothing vermicular. Their all just...gone."

LT BA'HOUK POINTS OUT INTO THE MAIN TOWN AREA BEHIND THEM.

LT BA'HOUK
"What is that?"

AS ALL OF THE AWAY TEAM MEMBERS LOOK OUT THERE IS A LARGE MONOLITH STANDING IN THE MID AREA OF TOWN. IT IS DEFINITELY ALIEN, PURPLE AND GRAY IN COLOR, WITH AN APERTURE IN THE CENTER WHICH IS GLOWING.

ENS QUEST
[Reading from her scanner]
"I'm detecting temporal energies."

LCDR RIGGS
"The subspace interference in space must have blocked our ship's sensors from detecting the monolith."

ENS QUEST
[Moves her scanner around]
"No...there's another one about 250 kilometers from this location over there [points]...and another one about 100 kilometers in that direction." [points in other direction]

LT BA'HOUK
"And they all have temporal energy signatures?"

ENS QUEST
[Checking her scanner just to make sure]
"Yes."

LCDR RIGGS
"Lets get a closer look."

ALL THREE OFFICERS STEP DOWN TOWARDS THE CENTER OF TOWN AND TOWARDS THE LARGE MONOLITH.

-CUT BACK TO THE BRIDGE OF THE MINOTAUR-

THE CAPTAIN AND CDR KAJOL ARE LOOKING AT THE MAIN MONITOR. ON THE MONITOR IS A PROJECTED VIEW OF THE ALIEN MONOLITH IN THE MIDDLE OF TOWN. KEEPING A SAFE DISTANCE, TWO OF THE OFFICERS ARE MOVING TO GET CLOSER.

LCDR RIGGS
[Voice only]
"The temporal energy is sustained by an energy core deep underground. It looks like they were shoved into the ground, not built."

CDR KAJOL
"The markings along the surface of the monolith, can you focus in a bit more?"

-CUT TO THE PLANETS SURFACE-

LCDR RIGGS RIGHT EYE BEGINS TO GLOW AS HE FOCUSES IN ON THE MONOLITHS PURPLISH/GRAY WALLS.

LCDR RIGGS
"That's about as good as it's going to get. The temporal energies and the subspace interference might be wreaking havoc with my bio-metric projection."

-CUT BACK TO THE BRIDGE OF THE MINOTAUR-

CAPTAIN
[Looking up at the projection]
"That's good, Commander..."
[Notices something]
"...those markings...are they hieroglyphs"

CDR KAJOL
"Good observation, Captain."

-BACK ON THE MAIN VIEWER, ON THE PLANETS SURCACE-

ENS QUEST STEPS INTO VIEW.

ENS QUEST
"It looks like a doorway...perhaps a one way trip."

-BACK ON THE MINOTAUR-

CDR KAJOL STEPS BACK TO HER TERMINAL. THE CAPTAIN TAKES ONE LAST LOOK AT THE MONOLITH, THEN STEPS UP TO CDR KAJOL'S STATION.

CAPTAIN
"...a doorway to save the inhabitants..."

CDR KAJOL
"Those hieroglyphs...I've seen them before, Captain."

CAPTAIN
"Where?"

CDR KAJOL TURNS HER TERMINAL MONITOR TOWARDS THE CAPTAIN.

CDR KAJOL
"Here."

THE CAPTAIN LOOKS AT THE MONITOR AND SEES A PICTURE OF A SMALLER MONOLITH IN A WOODED AREA.

CDR KAJOL
"I was cross referencing some data from the USS Enterprise after its encounter with the planet killer. It seems that random chance had this information fall into my hands."

CAPTAIN
"In normal terms, you were lucky."

CDR KAJOL
"Isn't that what I just said?"

CAPTAIN
[Changing the subject]
"What did you uncover?"

CDR KAJOL
"The data from a mission by the crew of the
Enterprise fell upon a monolith which bared the same markings...all of them identical."

CAPTAIN
"Can you get to the point, Kajol?"

CDR KAJOL
"The markings are from a race of people known as 'The Preservers'. Their mission was to take inhabitants from one planet and move them to pockets of livable planets, scattering them throughout the galaxy.

CAPTAIN
"That might explain why there are so many humanoids being found in our neighboring systems."

CDR KAJOL
"Precisely, Captain..."
[Looks at her monitor]
"...The Preservers must have detected what was going to happen to this planet with the demise of the planet killer and came back to move the inhabitants before they were all annihilated."

CAPTAIN
"And the Borg could have selected this time period and dimension to assimilate the technology."

CDR KAJOL
"...Or hone the ability of how to FIND the preservers. Either way, Captain, this could prove the Borg have an ability to detect shifts in the Quantum String or..."

CAPTAIN
[Cuts in]
"...or give credence to your theory that there's another Borg vessel which is either ahead of us; marking the trip through the Quantum String for the lead ship to follow..."
[She steps down to the
Conn area]
"...this 'crumb theory' of yours seems to be taking shape, Commander."

CDR KAJOL
"It's only a theory, Captain."

THE CAPTAIN NODS RELUCTANTLY.

CAPTAIN
"Computer, adjust active sensors to cut through the subspace interference and detect how many alien monoliths are stationed on the planets surface."

COMPUTER
[Voice only]
"Working..."
[Computer mechanisms instantly sounds off]

CDR KAJOL
[Talking loudly to herself]
"In order for the Preservers to move the inhabitants of the entire planet, it would take over 8,731 monoliths to be strategically placed on the surface, perhaps another 377 to move life forms from the planets oceans."

THE COMPUTER SOUNDS OFF.

COMPUTER
[Voice only]
With the addition of monoliths detected on the ocean floor, the total count of alien monoliths detected on the planet surface number at 9,153."

THE CAPTAIN LOOKS OVER AT CDR KAJOL AND GRINS.

CAPTAIN
"Close enough for me."

SCIENCE OFFICER
"Captain, ship's sensors are detecting a surge in Chronometric detections at grid 115, just outside of the Van Allen belts."

CAPTAIN
[Stern]
"Our friends our on their way..."

[To Kajol]
"...Bring up the Away Team."
[To the Helm]
"Helm, change course to Grid 183, and keep us on the dark side of the moon."

HELM OFFICER
"Aye, Captain. Changing course to Grid 183."

CDR KAJOL STEPS UP TO THE CAPTAIN.

CDR KAJOL
"These next moments in time history should prove to be fascinating."

CAPTAIN
"I agree."

THE TURBO DOOR OPENS AND LCDR RIGGS, LT BA'HOUK, AND ENS QUEST STEP ONTO THE BRIDGE AND IMMEDIATELY STEP BACK TO THEIR STATIONS.

THE CAPTAIN LOOKS OVER AT THE MONITOR.

CAPTAIN
[Whispers loudly to herself.]
"Anytime now."

CDR KAJOL
[Looking at her terminal]
"Chronometric particles increasing."

LT BA'HOUK
"Captain, the Planet Killer is changing course."

CAPTAIN
"New course?"

LT BA'HOUK
"Distortion in sensors is increasing, but I am sure she's headed in this direction. She's moving fast!"

CDR KAJOL
[Looking up from her terminal]
"The Planet Killer may be detecting the Borg's energy wake."

CAPTAIN
"Time to intercept?"

LT BA'HOUK
"Planet Killer is moving in fast, Captain. Subspace interference is wreaking havoc on the sensors."

CAPTAIN
"Best guess, Lieutenant!"

LT BA'HOUK TAPS FURIOUSLY AT HIS TERMINAL.

ENS QUEST
"Time Vortex opening up in Grid 115...she's coming through."

THE CAPTAIN LOOKS UP AT THE MAIN MONITOR AND SEES THE LARGE BORG TACTICAL CUBE TEAR INTO NORMAL SPACE.

THE LARGE BORG CUBE STOPS FOR A MOMENT, THEN SEEMS TO LUNGE FORWARD TOWARDS EARTH.

THE CAPTAIN TURNS TO THE TACTICAL STATION.

CAPTAIN
"Lieutenant?"

LT BA'HOUK
"She diving down on the Borg Cube now, Captain."

-CUT TO-

THE BORG CUBE DESCENDS DOWN TOWARDS EARTH AS THE DOOMS DAY MACHINE CLOSES IN FAST AND ITS MAUL BEGINS TO GLOW WHITE HOT.

-CUT TO THE BRIDGE OF THE MINOTAUR-

CDR KAJOL
"She's preparing to fire."

CAPTAIN
"Does the Borg ship see her?"

-CUT TO-

THE DOOMS DAY MACHINE FIRES IT'S FORCE BEAM.

CUT TO BLACK.

-END PART ONE-
